A survey finds a majority of South Koreans prefer cremation to burial. According to a poll conducted by Korea Gallup, more than 62 percent of respondents said they prefer cremation. Only about 39 percent said they like burial more.
The survey was conducted in April on about one thousand-500 adults across the nation.
The results contrast with a 19-94 survey conducted by the same polling agency. In that survey, the preference for cremation was about 33 percent against 65 percent for burial.
Almost 45 percent said they believe in life after death while just over 43 percent said geomancy is important in deciding on the burial site. But about 40 percent said they dont' believe that selection of a burial site considered auspicious in terms of geomancy will bring good luck to descendants.
