Hyundai Asan, which operates tours to North Korea’s Mount Geumgang resort, said Thursday that it aims to attract four-hundred-thousand South Korean tourists this year, an increase of 33 percent from 2006.
A company official said that tensions over North Korea’s nuclear program caused the number of tourists to fall last year. But, the official said, Hyundai can achieve its goal this year because more of the North Korean resort area will be open to South Koreans.
Hyundai Asan plans to offer a new tour package for the inner Geumgang area and open a golf course at the mountain resort.
In addition, the company plans to work closely with North Korea to realize a business project to build an inter-Korean industrial complex in the North Korean city of Gaesong.
