Despite Injury, Kim Yu-na to Compete in Japan

The Korea Skating Union said Friday that it will allow Kim Yu-na, Korea’s top female figure skater, to take part in the World Figure Skating Championship in Japan this March despite her recent injury.

The 17-year-old Kim, who recently captured the crown in the 2006 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championship, injured her back while exercising on Tuesday

The union's committee of judges said that despite concerns over another possible injury, it made the decision out of consideration that a good performance by Kim could increase Korea’s attendance at the world championship.

The skating body will convene a top-level meeting Monday to make a final decision on her participation in the world championship.
