S. Korea sees 2008 Beijing Olympics chance for economic boost

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said Saturday with Beijing being declared the host country for the 2008 Summer Olympics, South Korea's trade with China is expected to top US$100 billion in 2008.
The ministry said that as Chinese economic growth is likely to hit 8 percent on average per year in the coming years, forecasting Korean exports to China will rise about 15 percent annually by 2008.
The ministry said by 2008, the two countries' trade volume will grow to more than $100 billion with $56.5 billion in exports and $46 billion in imports.
The sectors that will likely get a boost from the Beijing Olympics include: construction materials, electric home appliances such as, digital TVs and plasma display panels, and communication and information technology.
The ministry hopes the country's construction companies will be allowed to participate in the construction of an airport, accommodations, and expressways to prepare for the Olympics.
