S. Korea, Belgium Sign Social Security Accord

South Korea and Belgium signed an agreement on social security on Monday.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Health Minister Rhyu Si-min and Belgium’s Ambassador to Seoul Victor Wei signed the accord at the ministry’s headquarters in the southern Seoul suburb of Gwacheon.

With the conclusion of the accord, South Korea has inked social security agreements with a total of 16 nations, including the United States, Germany, China and Japan.

Social security agreements aim to prevent the double payment of social insurance to nationals of one country who have worked in another.
