Korean Speedskater Sweeps Gold Medals in Winter Universiad

Korean speedskater Sung Si-baek on Saturday finished first in the men’s 5,000-meter short-track relay in the 2007 Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy, grabbing his fifth gold metal in the games.

He and three other speedskaters clocked six minutes fifty-five seconds and 24 hundredths of a second to finish first in the men’s 5,000-meter short-track relay final, beating their Chinese and Italian rivals.

With the new gold medal, Sung took the gold in all five of the men’s short-track events he participated in the Universiad.

However, the Korean women’s team failed to grab a medal in the women’s 3,000 meter relay after being disqualified.

Korea is currently maintaining its top position in total medal tally with ten golds, eleven silvers and nine copper medals.
