The North Korean government is taking measures to curb the rising popularity of South Korean television drama series and fashion trends, the so-called "Korean Wave."
A Seoul official said that many North Koreans have been using the expression “Mind your own worries," an adaptation of the line “Mind your own business,” from the South Korean film, "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.”
The official noted that North Korean defectors said South Korean TV dramas such as KBS drama series “The Emperor of the Sea” and “Autumn in My Heart" were popular among North Korean youth and those who hadn't seen them were considered outsiders.
Also, in the North, many young men were wearing their bangs long and jagged, and trendy young women were wearing tight pants with flared bottoms.
Accordingly, the North Korean government is urging the Workers’ Party, military and youth organizations to warn the public against such trends, and has called for strengthened ideological education.
