The National Intelligence Service (NIS) said Tuesday North Korea is operating more than 40 restaurants in six different countries as a major source of foreign currency income.
These "state-run" restaurants are managed directly by the Rodong (Workers') Party or other government organizations with North Korea providing cooks and other manpower and the foreign country supplying property, facilities and funding.
The first North Korean restaurant opened in Austria in March 1986 and others followed in China, Russia and Indonesia.
