Olympic Soccer Team to Face Yemen

The nation’s soccer squad will play its first regional qualifier against Yemen for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

The Yemeni squad advanced to the regional qualifier with a total of three points, one point more than Middle Eastern rival Palestine. The two countries tied one-all in the second preliminary match on Thursday after Yemen defeated Palestine two-to-one in the first preliminary last week.

As a result, the South Korean squad and the Yemeni team will play the first qualifier at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on Wednesday.

It will be for the first time for the nation to face Yemen, which is currently ranked 143rd by the world soccer body FIFA. South Korea is ranked 44th.
