British broadcaster BBC says two North Korean soldiers are thought to be at immediate risk of execution for helping North Koreans flee to China.

Quoting Amnesty International Monday, the report said the two border guards were due to be executed last month, but the date had been postponed until after the North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's 65th birthday, which took place last Friday.

According to BBC, Amnesty International is seeking to apply international pressure on the North Korean leadership over the issue.

The international human rights organization says that at least 70 people are believed to have been executed in the communist nation in 2005.
