Prosecutors to finish probing five sons of media owners this week

Written: 2001-07-26 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Prosecutors investigating charges of massive tax evasion at major newspapers will continue to question the Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo owners' sons about their alleged involvement in hiding wealth Thursday.
Their grilling will complete the prosecution's probe into five of the six newspaper owners' sons that the National Tax Service accused of tax evasion last month.
The probe will focus on whether they inherited stocks and cash illegally and whether the news firms created and used secret funds to complete stock transfers.
During questioning, the sons have shown a very obscure attitude about their involvement, neither admitting nor denying it.
Top newspaper executives will soon be the next target of the probe.
