South and North Korea have agreed to conduct trial runs of two cross-border railroads within the first half of this year after taking military steps to guarantee their safety.
At the 20th Cabinet-level talks in Pyongyang, the two sides also agreed to hold a meeting of their Economic Cooperation Promotion Committee from April 18th to the 21st in Pyongyang.
Delegates from the two sides announced the agreements in a press release issued after their last session on Friday afternoon.
The six-point press statement calls for a Red Cross meeting from April tenth to the 12th at Mount Geumgang to discuss the issue of South Korean soldiers taken prisoner during the Korean War and other nationals abducted to the North after the war.
Both sides will resume at an early date construction of a reunion center at the Mount Geumgang resort, which was halted following North Korea's missile tests last July. South and North Korea will hold video reunions of separated families this month and face-to-face reunions in May.
The two sides also pledged joint efforts to implement the February 13th six-way nuclear agreement.
However, the six-point agreement didn’t include mention of South Korea’s rice and fertilizer aid to the North.
The two sides agreed to hold the next round of ministerial talks from May 29th to June first in Seoul.
