North Korea's official state-run news agency said Friday that the country's Supreme People's Assembly has announced an ordinance with regard to its recently adopted law on the Red Cross.

The North's Korean Central News Agency reported that the law was enacted to protect the people's lives and property from various diseases and disasters, while promoting public health and welfare through the establishment of a system and order.

With the new law, the North Korean Red Cross is expected to become more active in calling for humanitarian aid.
