UM Denies Secret Deal at Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks

The Unification Ministry says that the two Koreas agreed on rice and fertilizer aid but made no other major agreements at the inter-Korean ministerial talks this week, denying rumors of a secret deal.

After the talks, Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung told reporters that the South agreed to provide 400-thousand tons of food and 300-thousand tons of fertilizer to the North.

He added that the inter-Korean economic cooperation meeting and Red Cross talks in April will address details concerning delivery of the aid.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Grand National Party issued a statement alleging inconsistency in Lee's statements which it said raised suspicion about the pact. The GNP called on the minister to clarify and disclose details of the agreement and to apologize to the people, accusing him of making a deal behind closed doors.
