FM Hints at Possible Meeting with N. Korean Negotiator

Foreign Minister Song Min-soon has hinted at the possibility of a meeting with top North Korean nuclear negotiator Kim Kye-kwan in New York, saying they could chance upon each other on the city's streets.

After a meeting Friday with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Song told reporters that he currently had no plans to meet the North Korean envoy and neither did Seoul's top nuclear negotiator Chun Yung-woo have a fixed plan to meet Christopher Hill.

A source in Washington said Song might meet briefly with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Chun might meet his North Korean counterpart around Saturday.

During his visit to Washington, the South Korean Foreign Minister will also meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. Afterwards, he plans to leave for New York with Chun on Saturday.
