'N.Korea Committed to Abandoning Nukes'

South Korea's top nuclear negotiator says North Korea is committed to abandoning its atomic energy program under the six-way agreement.

Ambassador Chun Yung-woo made the comment after a meeting Saturday with his North Korean counterpart Kim Kye-kwan in New York.

The two discussed the working groups that will deal with follow-up measures to the agreement reached in the six-way nuclear talks in Beijing on February 13.

Kim is in New York for bilateral talks with the United States Monday and Tuesday.

Chun said Pyongyang is strongly willing to do its share to fulfill the agreement, and that he told Kim what the South wants the North to do at a working group on economic and energy incentives to Pyongyang.

Seoul will chair the working group.

Turning to the upcoming U.S.-North Korea talks, Chun said creating a suitable political atmosphere is most important for handling critical agenda between the two sides.

Key issues include North Korea's demand that it be removed from the U.S. list of terrorism-sponsoring states and a lifting of the trade embargo.
