Gov't to beam Kimchi commercials into Japanese TV

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said Saturday it will place kimchi advertisements on Japan's Fuji Television and Kansai Television for two months starting Monday to correct distortions Japanese kimchi producers have fed consumers there for years.
The move came after the ministry had a meeting with representatives from local kimchi exporters at Doosan Corp.'s kimchi factory in Kangwon Province.
They decided to use commercials to boost exports of the quintessential spicy Korean dish and tilt the balance of trade more in Korea's favor.
The ministry said it will help finance overseas promotional costs to ensure kimchi exporters secure brand registration and recognition they are seeking in twelve major markets such as Japan, Hong Kong and the United States.
