South and North Korean Red Cross officials opened working-level contacts Friday to discuss resuming construction of a reunion center for separated families.

The two sides met at the North's Mount Geumgang to discuss a timetable for resuming construction, facility inspection procedures, and resuming the work of technical staff and material provision. South Korean Red Cross official Hwang Jeong-joo and the North's Park Yong-il headed their respective delegations.

The construction of the reunion center, which is about 30 percent complete, has been suspended since last July in the aftermath of Pyongyang's missile tests that month.

The inter-Korean Red Cross meeting was agreed to during the inter-Korean ministerial talks early this month.
