IAEA Chief Begins Pyongyang Visit

The U.N.'s top nuclear inspector has arrived in Pyongyang to discuss the inspection of its nuclear programs.

During his two-day trip, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei will meet North Korean officials to discuss specifics on the freezing and ultimate disabling of their country's nuclear facilities.

The two sides will also discuss general issues such as facilities to be inspected, the rights of IAEA inspectors and the scope of the inspection.

While in Beijing en route to Pyongyang, the IAEA chief told reporters Tuesday that the return of international inspectors to North Korea at an appropriate time is important to implement the latest six-party nuclear agreement. He called for the North's full cooperation in the inspections.

ElBaradei also expressed hope that the communist country would return to the IAEA fold.
