North Korea’s Kim Il-sung University will open a computer network at its science library with South Korean support.

It is the first time that a South Korean advanced computer library system has been introduced at a North Korean college.

A handful of South Korean libraries including the Kim Dae-jung Presidential Library helped the North develop the new library operating system. Some 30 South Korean technicians have been staying in Pyongyang since last August to build the library's computer network.

The North Korean school plans to use the new system to share some of its academic data with South Korea.

A South Korean official voiced expectations that the computer network would promote inter-Korean academic exchanges.
