North Korean state-run media reported Tuesday that Didier Cherpitel, the Secretary General of the International Federation of the Red Cross, flew into Pyongyang to monitor relief activities.
The North's Central TV said that upon his arrival at the Pyongyang Sunan Airport, Cherpitel was welcomed by the chairman of the North Korean Red Cross Society Chang Jae-on.
The IFRC head is expected to inspect on-going relief activities by Red Cross officials during his five-day stay. He will fly into Seoul to meet his South Korean counterpart Suh Young-hoon and Unification Minister Lim Dong-won on Saturday.
