Koreas Discuss Ex-President's Visit to Pyongyang: Minister

Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung said Friday that the two Koreas are discussing a possible visit to Pyongyang by the South’s former President Kim Dae-jung.

Lee told a parliamentary committee that Seoul is in contact with Pyongyang through both official and unofficial channels.

The minister noted that he had met with the former president to discuss a possible visit to the North, adding that Seoul is taking a “cautious” approach in light of the potential political impact of such a visit.

Lee said that an inter-Korean summit would be the most useful and valuable dialogue channel for peace on the Korean Peninsula, but denied any concrete action by Seoul for a summit.
