The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Safeguards Department will likely visit North Korea at the end of this month.
A government official said Olli Heinonen's visit to Pyongyang is significant as he would be briefed on North Korea's position toward the agency's inspection of its past nuclear activities during the visit.
In negotiations last November's between the IAEA and North Korea, the agency delivered its stance on examining the North's nuclear facilities.
