Labor organizations of the two Koreas have tentatively decided to celebrate this year’s Labor Day in the South Korean city of Ulsan on May first.
The two sides made the decision during a meeting Saturday in Gaesong, North Korea.
The meeting was attended by officials from the South’s Federation of Korean Trade Unions and the Korea Confederation of Trade Unions as well as the North’s General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea.
If the plan is approved by South Korean authorities, it would be the first time for the two Koreas to commemorate May Day together in the South. Joint Labor Day celebrations have been held in North Korea since 2001.
A spokesman for the Federation of Korean Trade Unions said that a final decision will come late this month.
