Unification Min. Calls for Regular Family Reunions

Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung said Tuesday that Red Cross officials from the two Koreas will discuss holding regular reunions of separated families at a meeting next month.

During a visit to the South Korean Red Cross where the fifth round of video family reunions is under way, Lee stressed that such events should not be subject to politics.

He said that they should be held regularly if reunion centers are built, noting that the centers could also serve as a venue for other inter-Korean meetings.

Lee said that the inter-Korean Red Cross meeting, which is slated for April tenth, will address the issue of South Korean war prisoners and civilians kidnapped by the North as far back as the 1960s.
