South-North Econ. Talks Enter Day 2

The two Koreas are meeting for a second day Thursday in Pyongyang for the 13th round of bilateral economic cooperation talks.

The two sides are scheduled to disclose their key positions at their morning session.

The South’s delegation is expected to urge North Korea to swiftly work on taking the initial steps in dismantling its nuclear program as promised under a February 13th nuclear agreement. The South will also unveil its position on providing rice aid to the impoverished North and propose holding test runs for two inter-Korean railways around May ninth.

The North’s delegation, on its part, is expected to call on the South to promptly provide rice assistance and light industry materials.

The South’s six-member delegation arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday afternoon via a direct chartered flight from Seoul for the four-day discussions.

The latest South-North economic talks are the first in ten months.
