The Ministry of Information and Communication plans to set up three district software production centers in a bid to relocate software development firms now concentrated in Seoul and its vicinity and to spur the software industry.
The ministry said Saturday...it will map out a basic plan this month and designate two or three district "software towns" in October or November.
Funding support for each projected town will be about 2.5 billion won.
In the projected towns, software centers equipped with office space, conference rooms and exhibition halls will be built with funding support by the ministry.
The district software towns are expected to generate synergies in terms of business liaison among firms with the same trade and tie-ups, according to the ministry. The towns are also expected to help allay the heavy concentration of software firms in the metropolitan area.
