S.Korea Agrees to General-Level Military Talks

Seoul has agreed to hold general-level military talks with North Korea as a first step toward testing two cross-border railways.

The South confirmed the agreement with its Northern counterparts Friday, after Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung announced Thursday that South Korea would accept the North’s proposal for a three-day meeting beginning Tuesday at the border area of Panmunjeom.

The two sides will discuss military safety guarantees for cross-border railway tests later this month, but the unification minister said the talks could also touch on ways to ease military tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
