NK's Overseas Trade Volume Dropped in 2006

North Korea saw a decline in overseas trade last year.

According to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency Tuesday, the volume of North Korea's overseas trade slipped two-tenths of a percentage point from 2005 to around two-point-nine billion dollars.

The North's imports rose two-point-three percent to around two billion dollars but its exports dropped more than five percent to some nine-hundred-47 million dollars.

The trade agency said that last year the North posted a trade deficit of one-point-one billion dollars, up nine-point-seven percent from the previous year.

The trade body said the decrease is a result of the deterioration in trade conditions for the North following its missile and nuclear tests last year.
