Gov't Mulls Delivering Light Industry Material Via Rail

The government is considering railway as a means for delivering some of the light industry materials it has pledged to provide to North Korea.

A government official said Friday that Seoul is mulling sending 80 million dollars' worth of light industrial materials to the North this year via inter-Korean railways in an effort to speed up the launch of regular train service on the Gyeongui and Donghae lines.

The government is likely to make the proposal at the third working-level talks on cooperation in light industry and underground resources development next week or during the 21st inter-Korean ministerial meeting set to open May 29th in Seoul.

Earlier on Friday, Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung said on a radio program that the railways will be useful to deliver light industry materials to the North and to carry underground resources from the communist state.
