Inter-Korean Econ. Coop. Pact to Take Effect Next Wk.

An inter-Korean cooperation accord on light industry and natural resources development will take effect Tuesday, eleven months after it was signed.

The Unification Ministry said Friday that Seoul and Pyongyang will exchange the agreement text on May 22nd, now that long-delayed test runs of cross-border railways have been held.

The agreement was reached June sixth, 2002, but its entry into effect has been delayed because Seoul attached a condition that it could be implemented only after the railway test runs.

Under the pact, the two Koreas will carry out joint research on three North Korean mines for 12 days from June 25th. Seoul plans to send five million tons of polyester fiber to Pyongyang two days later.
