KEDO Office in New York to Close

Written: 2007-05-25 10:17:58Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The Korea Energy Development Organization's (KEDO) branch office in New York, which worked on operations for light water reactors in North Korea’s Geumho area, is expected to close at the end of this month.

The office's closure is expected to halt the light water reactor project between North Korea and KEDO that was agreed upon more than eleven years ago.

The closure comes a year after the U.S.-led consortium decided to terminate the construction of two light water reactors in North Korea.

The plan was suspended in 2003 after a nuclear stand off erupted on the Korean Peninsula the year before.
