Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks Open in Seoul

The two Koreas will hold ministerial talks Tuesday in Seoul to further discuss issues such as cross-border railway operations.

In the four-day talks, Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung, who leads the South Korean delegation, is expected to set forth issues such as reducing military tension on the Korean Peninsula.

He will also propose steps to permanently reopen cross-border railways and boost operations at the Gaesong Industrial Complex.

However, but Seoul’s recent decision to delay food aid shipments to Pyongyang until it complies with a February nuclear dismantlement agreement is expected create some obstacles for the talks.

North Korea has refused to implement the initial steps outlined in the nuclear agreement until it receives its funds that were previously frozen at the Banco Delta Asia (BDA) bank in Macao.
