65% of the Japanese people support Koizumi's visit to the shrine

Japan's Mainichi Shimbun has said that 65 percent of the Japanese people are in favor of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to Yasukuni Shrine on August 13.
The daily said the Japanese people's support for the Koizumi cabinet is as high as 81 percent.
The paper asked 1000 adults whether they think Koizumi's visit to Yasukuni was right or wrong. 65 percent of the survey said he was right while only 28 percent said wrong.
45 percent of those surveyed said they understand China and Korea while 49 percent said they don't understand the two countries opposing the prime minister's visit to the shrine which enshrines Japanese war dead. However, the shrine also honors war criminals convicted by the allied tribunal.
The paper said that Koizumi's cabinet is maintaining an approval rate higher than 80 percent.
