S-N Working Level Defense Talks Next Wk

The two Koreas will hold working-level defense talks on June eighth to discuss implementing the agreements from the fifth round of inter-Korean defense chiefs' talks held earlier this month.

The Defense Ministry in Seoul says Pyongyang first proposed the talks and then Seoul suggested the June eighth date, given the schedule of inter-Korean ministerial talks under way.

The three-member South and North Korean delegations will be headed by Colonels Moon Seong-mook and Park Rim-soo, respectively. They will discuss the establishment of a joint fishing zone in the West Sea, direct service of North Korean private vessels to Haeju Port, flood prevention efforts on the Imjin River and military guarantees for the Han River estuary management project.

The talks will be held on the South Korean side of the border village of Panmunjeom.
