North Korea has yet to make a formal proposal to the South for shared celebrations to mark the seventh anniversary of a joint statement issued June 15th, 2000 during historic inter-Korean summit talks in Pyongyang.

A government official said that the two Koreas agreed at the recent inter-Korean ministerial talks to discuss a joint celebration through liaison officer contacts. But the North has yet to make a formal proposal.

Attention is on whether the joint celebration will be held as scheduled as the latest inter-Korean ministerial talks virtually collapsed Friday over the South’s decision to postpone rice aid to the North.

Seoul and Pyongyang have taken turns hosting events commemorating the anniversary of the June 15th Joint Statement since 2005, with government officials from both sides joining the festivities.
