ACD Ends with Seoul IT Declaration

Foreign ministers and government officials from 30 Asian nations have wrapped up the sixth Asia Cooperation Dialogue with the adoption of a joint declaration.

South Korean Foreign Minister Song Min-soon told a news conference Tuesday that the "Seoul IT Declaration" aims to narrow the information gap between rich and poor nations in the region.

Song added that the participants agreed that Asian nations should enhance efforts to establish and improve fundamental social systems and IT infrastructure in member countries to close the information gap.

The minister said that the participants also agreed to form a high-level research group by 2010 to discuss the regional forum's future.

On the North Korean nuclear issue, Song said that all participants shared the view that Pyongyang should swiftly implement initial steps toward nuclear dismantlement in line with February's six-party nuclear agreement.
