The number of tourists traveling to North Korea’s Mount Geumgang resort since the key inter-Korean project was launched nearly eight years ago topped one-and-a-half million Wednesday.

According to Hyundai Asan, the operator of the Geumgang tour program, the number is expected to rise further with this month's launch of tour packages to the inner area of the resort, known as Naegeumgang, and the opening of a golf course in the area during the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, a weekend concert will be held at the mountain resort's culture center Saturday featuring popular South Korean singer Nam Jin and rock band No Brain.
