Asiana Airlines has filed a petition with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transportation seeking to lift sanctions against the carrier.
Last Thursday, the F-A-A's downgrading of South Korea's aviation safety ratings resulted in the cancellation of Asiana's code sharing arrangement with American Airlines.
A company spokesman said the F-A-A judged the air safety standard of Korea, not Asiana Airlines, therefore disciplinary action against an individual airline has to be revoked.
The FAA's move bans South Korean carriers form launching new air routes, increasing flight frequencies and changing airplane types.
Asiana also asserted that the F-A-A move should not affect code sharing agreements because it is up to individual air carriers to enter into the agreements.
Asiana insisted that its safety record has been immaculate over the past five years and the insurance coverage on its airplanes is above average.
