Nation Celebrates Dano

The nation is celebrating the traditional Dano festival, one of four major Korean holidays including New Year’s, the Chuseok thanksgiving, and Hansik or the “Cold Food” day in spring.

Dano falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, considered an auspicious day because of the two fives in the date.

In Seoul, the 2007 Seoul Dano Festival was held at the traditional Korean village near Namsan.

The festival featured various events including the Bongsan mask dance, tightrope walking, a Korean quartet concert and traditional wrestling and martial arts matches.

Visitors were also able to ride a traditional Korean swing and took part in Dano customs such as washing their hair in iris water.
