WFP to Expand Food Aid to NK in September

The World Food Program (WFP) says it will increase the number of food aid recipients in North Korea up to two million starting from September.

To that end, the U.N.-related agency added it was considering hiring more staff at its Pyongyang office.

In an interview with Radio Free Asia, the regional spokesman of WFP in Bangkok, Paul Risley, said the expansion was possible thanks to a 20-million-dollar commitment from South Korea following contributions from Australia and Switzerland.

Currently, eleven foreign workers and some two or three dozen North Korean employees are at the Pyongyang office.
