The German government said Friday Germany's promised beef aid to North Korea will be carried out late next month.
The Agriculture Ministry said in a statement that 6,000 tons of beef will depart a German port to North Korea in the last week of September as the communist country accepted every condition stipulated in the aid agreement.
The German beef will be unloaded at four North Korean ports in late October or early November before the World Food Programme (WFP) distributes it to residents.
In an attempt to stabilize its beef market in the wake of the mad cow disease scare, the German government decided to provide 30,000 tons of beef to North Korea. However, the aid plan was delayed due to rebounding domestic demand for beef.
North Korea also requested Germany to delay the shipment until after summer citing difficulties in cold storage handling.
