S.Korea's Emergency Rice Aid to Arrive Saturday in NK

The government plans to conclude a 10-thousand-500 ton rice shipment to North Korea on Saturday.

The aid is the remainder of the some 100-thousand tons of rice aid Seoul promised to help the North recover from its massive floods last year.

A Unification Ministry official said a freighter carrying five-thousand tons of rice left the South’s Gunsan Port for Nampo in the North on Friday and that another five-thousand ton shipment will leave for Nampo Port from Yeosu on Saturday.

The official said, however, that shipment of the rice aid could be delayed by a few days if heavy monsoon rains continue in the North.
