South and North Korea will hold a working-level meeting Friday in Gaesong to discuss Seoul’s provision of 50-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil to the North in accordance with the February six-party nuclear agreement.
A Unification Ministry official in Seoul said Thursday that the two sides are expected to discuss practical issues related to delivery of the fuel oil during the two-day meeting.
The official said that they will seek to sign a contract on the oil provision based on the outcome of the working-level meeting, adding that it will take at least three more weeks before deliveries begin.
Seoul's four-member delegation at the meeting is composed of working-level officials for the six-party nuclear talks.
Under the February 13th nuclear accord, participants to the six-party talks promised energy aid in return for the North’s shutdown of its nuclear facilities and the return of nuclear inspectors.
