Cheju Island's local government has set a September parliamentary session as the submission deadline for a special law on developing the nation's southernmost island into an internationally open city.
Officials Monday said the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs formally approved plans last week to dispatch central government officials to form a planning committee on the project.
The planning committee, to be placed under the guidance of the prime minister, will be made up of 27 representatives of government and research organizations.
