Samsung Chair: Olympics Could Open New Economic Era for Korea

International Olympics Committee member and Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee says he thinks that if Pyeongchang hosts the 2014 Winter Olympics, it could lead to Korea's average annual per capita income being boosted to 30-thousand dollars.

The chairman visited Pyeongchang’s bidding committee Tuesday and encouraged the team to perform at its best, stressing the significance that hosting the Olympics could have on the people and economy of the nation.

Lee said it has been easier for him to predict where his business is heading all his life than it is for him to predict where the final votes will be cast at the meeting.

Lee, who actively supported Pyeongchang’s bid for the 2010 Winter Games four years ago, said that the campaigning is much more active than before and that he expects good results as South Koreans have come together on the matter.
