Working-level defense talks between the two Koreas will open Tuesday at the Tongilgak Pavilion on the northern side of the Panmunjeom truce village.
The Defense Ministry in Seoul says the meeting will discuss how to implement the agreements from the general-level inter-Korean military talks in May.
At the time, the two sides agreed to discuss military guarantees for cross-border projects including the establishment of a joint fishing zone in the West Sea and steps to prevent flooding of the Imjin River.
The two Koreas met again in early June for follow-up working-level talks but made little progress as Pyongyang insisted that the Northern Limit Line extension into the West Sea be reset.
A ministry official says that South Korea respects and abides by the existing Northern Limit Line (NLL) while also urging measures to prevent maritime clashes. But North Korea wants the NLL to be first reset, saying that tension persists in the West Sea because there is no set limit line.
