Oldest Wooden Buddhist Statue Discovered

A wooden Buddhist statue, which experts say is the nation's oldest, has been found at Bokwangsa Temple in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.

The statue also included inside an ancient woodblock print of a Buddhist text from the Goguryeo era.

A team of archaelogists discovered the seated Buddhist statue, which they say was produced in the 13th century and will contribute greatly to the study of Goguryeo era Buddhist sculpture.

The Buddhist print acompanying it, which is referred to as the Bohyup Inkyung and is said to have been made about one-thousand years ago, is considered to be representative of Goguryeo woodblock printing.
