The toxin-laden red tide spreading from the sea off the southern coast to the southeast coast is likely to reach the west coast.
Officials of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute said one of the algae causing the toxic tide was observed growing in the waters off Kunsan, North Cholla Province, Friday.
They added that the density of the seaweed was 100 to 150 per milliliter of the water, below the level of red tide, and the color of the water was still normal.
However, , they predicted if the current high seawater temperature continues, it will just be a matter of time before the red tide reaches the west coast.
