The two Koreas will open their sixth round of general-level military talks Tuesday on the southern side of the Panmunjeom truce village to discuss preventing naval skirmishes in the West Sea and reducing military tension on the peninsula.
During the talks, which will last for three days, the two sides will continue discussions on drawing up a joint fishing zone, allowing North Korean commercial vessels to pass through South Korean waters to travel to Haeju port, and other issues.
The North and South held three rounds of working-level military talks after the fifth round of general-level talks but have not been able to push forward due to the North’s insistence on redrawing the Northern Limit Line (NLL).
South Korea is expected to stand firm on keeping the NLL intact, while the North is most likely to push again for the line to be rezoned.
If North Korea demands that the Northern Limit Line be redrawn in this round, it is likely to keep talks from moving forward on any of the other topics agreed upon during the previous round of discussions.
